Is the manual ready? EU has new requirements for restrictions on 5G Wi-Fi products

Commission implementing Decision (EU) 2022/179 of 8 February 2022 and repealing Decision 2005/513/EC. The new decision has modified the usage scenarios of 5G RLAN, and the adjustment will affect the part of the 5G RLAN product(Mobile phone, router, notebook, PC, etc.) manual about restricting the use of warnings. Therefore, customers' products are supported to 5G RLAN, and special attention should be paid.

Let's interpret it in detail. What are the main differences between the old and new decision? What are the main changes in the new decision?

Old: Decision 2005/513/EC

1.‘indoor use’ shall mean use inside a building, including places assimilated thereto such as an aircraft, in which the shielding will typically provide the necessary attenuation to facilitate sharing with other services.

2.In the frequency band 5 150-5 350 MHz, WAS/RLANs shall be restricted to indoor use with a maximum mean e.i.r.p. of 200 mW.

Therefore, the indoor limited use warning in the product user manual only needs to be written: 5 150-5 350 MHz is indoor used only.

New: Decision (EU) 2022/179

1. revised technical conditions for WAS/RLANs in the 5 150-5 250 MHz band for the following indoor use cases: inside buildings and installations inside road vehicles, trains and aircraft, and limited outdoor use.

2.‘indoor use’ is defined as use inside a closed space which will provide the necessary attenuation to facilitate sharing with other services. Indoor use can be classified in four use cases, as identified in the technical conditions of the Annex to this Decision that represent specific scenarios: inside buildings, inside road vehicles, inside trains and inside aircraft

3. By 31 March 2022, Member States shall designate and make available the 5 150-5 250 MHz, 5 250-5 350 MHz and 5 470-5 725 MHz frequency bands, on a non-exclusive basis, for the implementation of WAS/RLANs in accordance with the technical conditions set out in the Annex.

In accordance with the technical conditions specified in the Annex (EU) 2022/179, the warnings in the product user manual for 5G WAS/RLAN usage conditions need to be revised. For details, please refer to the " Permissible operation " column in the following three tables.
