CE Certification Analysis for Wi-Fi 5GHz Band4 | Clarify Differences Among Three Major ETSI Standards to Avoid Wrong Test Standard Selection

As shown in the table above, ETSI EN 300 440 and ETSI EN 301 893 share relatively similar technical requirements. By contrast, ETSI EN 302 502 imposes stricter constraints. For Wi-Fi products, only 20 MHz bandwidth is permitted, and DFS detection compliance is compulsory.

Supplementary Notes on ETSI EN 301 893

1. At present, V2.2.1 is the only available version of ETSI EN 301 893 that supports Wi-Fi 5 GHz Band4.

2. Though the maximum Band4 EIRP under this standard reaches 23 dBm, only the United Kingdom and Czech Republic within Europe allow such high power operation. For all other European countries, the EIRP shall be limited to 25 mW (13.98 dBm) or below.

3. If the product needs to deliver transmit power higher than 25 mW, software implemented country determination capability is required: higher than 25 mW EIRP can be activated when the device identifies deployment in the UK or Czech Republic. When deployed in other European countries, or when the country cannot be identified, the EIRP must be ≤ 25 mW.

Summary of Wi-Fi 5GHz Band4 Selection

▶ If your product accepts EIRP ≤ 25 mW, either ETSI EN 300 440 or ETSI EN 301 893 can be adopted for certification.

▶ If EIRP > 25 mW is required:

　□ ETSI EN 301 893 may be used. Documents such as country code switching evidence shall be submitted for country determination capability testing.

　□ Alternatively, ETSI EN 302 502 is available, provided that the product only supports 20 MHz bandwidth and passes relevant DFS tests.

▶ For certificate conversion for countries such as Thailand, local regulatory rules mandate the exclusive use of ETSI EN 302 502 for certification.
